Meet the Speaker: Oliver Christian, HM Consul General to New York and HM Trade Commissioner for North America

Oliver Christian serves as His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for North America and His Majesty’s Consul General to New York. Appointed in April 2025, he joined from the Prime Minister’s Office, 10 Downing StreetÌý

Previously, Oliver served as His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner to the Middle East and Pakistan and His Majesty’s Consul General to Dubai and the Norther Emirates. In this role he led the UK Business, Trade and Investment agenda across a diverse region.ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý

Prior to this, Oliver led the Prime Minister’s Business Unit at 10 Downing Street, advising four Prime Ministers and fostering connections between government, Whitehall, and the global business community. During his tenure, he oversaw investments and export deals exceeding £78 billion, establishing the UK’s Global Investment Summit, and the Office for Investment.Ìý

In 2016, Oliver was instrumental in founding the Department for International Trade (now the Department for Business and Trade) as Principal Private Secretary to the Secretary of State and President of the Board of Trade. Across his 14-year government career, Oliver has gained extensive expertise in trade, investment, business, regulation, and security, representing the United Kingdom.Ìý

Oliver holds a degree in International Relations and Philosophy from Keele University and studied abroad at the University of Toronto. He’s a keen runner, sailing enthusiast and active mentor, recently with the King’s Trust.Ìý
